Bing Map Rest service - Geocoding RRS feed

  • Question

  • The address is not geocoded properly '512 Rue Ste. Agnes,,QUEBEC,QC,G1N 1B7'

instead of geocoding for the postal code GIN 1B7 it geocodes for the Postal code J1H even in the bing map it shows the same.

I am facing this issue in production which is of critical priority.

here is my Webservice URL"http://dev.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/Locations/512 Rue Ste Agnes,,QUEBEC,QC,G1N 1B7?o=xml&key=BingMapKey"

Can any one tell me why does bing return Latitude and Longitude for some other address and not for the one which i actually want or am i missing anything in the URL.

    Regards,

    Govind

  • If you have an enterprise license for Bing Maps you can contact the Bing Maps Enterprise support team who will be able to get the geocoding team to look into this. The email address for the Enterprise Support team is available in the Bing Maps portal on the left side panel for all enterprise accounts.

  • Hi,

First of all as a quick workaround - if you know the postal code it is usually more reliable to use just that rather then the whole street address. Thus the "QUEBEC,QC,G1N 1B7" query gives correct results. You could do a normal search and then if the result is not satisfying - do a more relaxed search with Country, Region, ZIP...

As for your question - I do not think you are missing anything. It might be smth. related to the local specifics of the region. Anyways I have filed a bug about this using the "Help Improve Bing" in the bottom.

    hope that helps,

    Viktor.
