Recommended Hardware for Windows 8 Development?

    Question

  • I want to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview on a touch device and start building Metro apps.

What is the best, currently available, hardware for these efforts?

This would include a desktop with touch capability and a slate or tablet.

It's my understanding that the only slate that really meets Win8 requirements is the Samsun Series 7.

I don't know what laptops or desktops might have touch capabilities that are recommended.

  • Hi David,

I would recommend the Lenovo X220 laptop.  It has a touch screen and has great support for Windows 8 out of the box.

It is what a lot of the MS staff used during the build conference for demoing Win8

Edit: Five minutes later while browsing MSDN, I saw a post by Microsoft on this very subject.  (They do recommend the x220)  Please read:

  • Excellent...just what I was looking form....I was going to pick up the Samsung tablet, but the Lenovo convertible looks like the way to go.

Now...where to find the best deal...
