Need information on Bing Map Java Wrapper API RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently, we upload a csv file for the data-source whenever there is a change in the map entities. We have a requirement of automating this process wherein, whenever there is a change in the asset at our end, the corresponding map entity should be automatically updated. We have explored an open source java wrapper for bing map available at:

    http://code.google.com/p/bing-maps-java-sdk/

However, this API is still in beta testing stage. Can you please point me to a production quality API which can cater to the aforesaid requirements?

    Regards,

  • That looks like an old API someone created that uses the Bing Maps SOAP services. I would definately recommend not using that one. There is the Bing Maps Android SDK that is a code plex project here: http://bingmapsandroidsdk.codeplex.com/ However, note that there has been issues with new Android OS platforms due to bugs on Google's side. The recommended approach for using Bing Maps in Android is to use the Bing Maps V7 AJAX control with a tool called PhoneGap http://phonegap.com

As for storing your data and automating an upload process. There is the Bing Spatial Data Services which is available to all Enterprise customers. This will allow you to expose your data as a REST based spatial service which you can then use to tie your data into your application. If you are not an enterprise customer it is possible to request access to this service however you will only be able to upload and access data through the API's and not through the main user interface.
