SharePoint add-ins with visual studio 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am starting a course on MVA for SharePoint development (add-ins), and on that link https://msdn.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/office/fp142379.aspx (refer by the course on mva) it is said that you can develop and test SharePoint add-ins using visual studio 2013 pro if you install the office Tools. I did that and there is no sign of add-ins under VISUAL C# as you ban see on the image below. Do we need a particular version of visual studio ?

  • Hi,

You need to Install or Open Web Platform Installer

    1. If you have not installed Web Platform Installer already, navigate to the linkhttp://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx, download and install Web Platform Installer. This is a less than 2 MB setup and it won’t take much time to download and install.
    2. Open Web Platform Installer by navigating to Start –> All Programs –> Microsoft Web Platform Installer
Download and Install Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2013
    1. Search for “SharePoint” keyword using the Search box in the Web Platform Installer.
    2. Select Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2013 and select Add to add Office Developer Tools and any other associated tools.

And please remember that once you select the Project Type as SharePoint Empty project and go to solution explorer, right click on Add new items, you will see all the SharePoint template.

  • Hi Krishana,

Thank you for the reply and sorry for the delay for my answer. The Visual studio tools for Office (vsto update august 2015) is already install and I have double checked with the platform installer and the status is <installed>. The problem is inside visual studio when I try to start a new project. When you open the File tab, new and project, then expand visual c#, Office/SharePoint, I am suppose to see a add-ins element right under Office/SharePoint and from there select add-ins for SharePoint but the add-ins element is not there, as you can see on my screen shot. Even though the Office tools for visual studio is installed. Is there anything else we need to install ? Do I have to use Visual studio 2015 and if so, what version is good for sharepoint add-ins.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Alaincote,

The SharePoint add-ins will be available by clicking Add New Item after creating a SharePoint Empty Project as Krishana suggested.

This is how it works in Visual Studio.

You need to create the SharePoint Empty Project first and add new items to use the SharePoint add-ins.

    Thanks,

    Victoria
