Update Item on creating of an item in seperate list RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am new to SharePoint and have a requirement to update a list item(List A) based on an item having been created in another list(List B).

The Item in List B contains the ID(entered manually thru lookup by users) of the item in List A.

Now what I want to do, is update a field of an item in LIST A when an item is created in List B which contains the ID of the List A item.

(As in find the item from List A based on the ID entered in List B and update a check box on a field in Item A)

Is this something which can be achieved by workflows and some guidance on the solution will be very much appreciated.

  • You can use Update List Item action in the workflow to update the check box field in List A. This workflow will called from List B when Item added to the List B.

Check the below link for example

Other option is you can use event handlers to achieve the functionality.

  • Another option would be to develop an event receiver and have it act upon list B on ItemAdded. This would require some C# development.
