Tried to name a chart in VBA and got "out of memory" error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I kind of have two problems:

    (1) I tried to assign a name to a chart, but the Chart Tools area of the toolbar no longer has the Layout tab and I can't find the chart properties anywhere else, so I don't know how to name the chart other than using Immediate VBA.

    (2) When I tried to use Immediate VBA (I just selected the chart and then used ActiveChart.Name = "Chart Name") I got an "out of memory" error. I tried everything I could find/think of, down to commenting out some longish code, but nothing worked.

    Any ideas?

  • 1.) What about the name bar to the left of the formula field? Could you re-name it there?

2.) I've had a lot of "out of memory" errors when working with charts... never with renaming them though. You might try turning off screen-updating while you run your chart macro with Application.ScreenUpdating = False

  • Enter Excel in the safe mode - that is, open Run windows and type Excel /safe

Then, try renaming the chart. Also, be sure that there is not more than one worksheet selected in the workbook.
