Error Message: The feature being activated is a Site Collection scoped feature which has a dependency on a Web Application scoped feature which has not been activated. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get this error when I try to activate a WSP to the Site collection

    The feature being activated is a Site Collection scoped feature which has a dependency on a Web Application scoped feature which has not been activated. Please activate the following feature before trying again: Web Application Configuration 9944de6a-b5ad-41a9-8c33-246a523a1b7d

    How do I solve the Web Application Feature issue, and Deploy it?

    I only have the one WSP file...  IS there another file I should have?

  • Hi,

    In your feature.xml file find the "Activation dependencies" xml tags. You will find the GUID of the feature that must be in web application scope. You need to activate it first and then deploy or activate your custom feature.

    You can use this

    Enable-SPFeature -identity <guid> -URL webapplicationUrl

  • Hi,

    Please try to use activation dependency expresses to achieve it, check the articles below:

    Or try to active the web application feature in feature receiver in site collection feature using C# code.

    Guid featureGuid = new Guid("[Feature-GUID-Here]");
    SPWebApplication webApplication= web.Site.WebApplication;
    if(webApplication.WebService.Features[featureGuid]==null)
    {
           webApplication.WebService.Features.Add(featureGuid);
    }
