Why Does EW4 Keep Creating A "Default.html" Page? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have set "index.html" has my home page, but when I open my site after either closing it and exiting EW4, or just closing EW4, hafl the time it recreates "default.html" when I reopen it.

Is there a way to turn off this annoying feature?

  • As long as you don't publish it.  :)  If you publish it, it might display as your home page when someone types your site address without a page specified, since the order of priority of "default" vs "index" would depend on your host's server settings.

  • I can't reproduce that.  If I open a site with an index.html page, EW does not create a default.html page.

The only time EW creates a page without asking is if I open it and have not yet opened a site. A new but unsaved "Untitled" page shows, which vanishes when I open a site.

  • It's not happening the last few times, so maybe it was just a glitch. Hopefully.

If it happens again, as long as I have my "index.html" set as my home page, it won't matter if there is a "default.html" page in my home folder, does it? I mean, it will just be an extraneous file that doesn't affect anything, right???

  • Well when, if it shows up again I'll just exclude it from publishing and be done with it! Thanks for the clarification.

  • Why not just delete the page if it has no content and is not being used? pat

  • Pat, if you read the posts, Lamblion is saying it keeps getting re-created.  Notice that and delete it when it happens is more hassle than mark it once.
