Any TTS API for Metro Style Apps in VisualStuio 2011 (after release of Windows 8 Consumer Preview)?

    Question

  • Are the speech APIs still not available after the release of Windows 8 Consumer Preview?

If no, any alternative way to accomplish Text-To-Speech in metro style apps, would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

  • Hi qSabawoon,

There are no Text-to-Speech API provided for Metro style apps. You would need to either implement your own or access a cloud based speech API.

  • Thank you Rob!

Could you please suggest me a cloud based speech API which would work perfect with Metro style apps.

Surprised to hear Text-To-Speech is missing from Metro. I'm looking at porting a product first released six years ago using Microsoft Speech so rather a backwards step.

A cloud based approach lacks usability for my game scenario (in a mobile context 3G/wifi access must be regarded as unreliable, ok for intrinsically online type services but hopeless for mobile local games).

Solutions? For Intel, I could make a local speech server, a nuisance but not a show stopper - will this be possible for Metro on WOA or is Text-To-Speech missing entirely from WOA?
