Geocode Confidence Rating RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

Geocode service provide following three ratings - (High, Medium, Low) as per below link:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff701725.aspx

Confidence is 'High' when there are strong matches of result. Confidence is 'Medium' when either particular attribute from address match exactly or location information in the query is ambiguous. Could anyone please tell when will we have 'Low' confidence. Will it be complete mismatch from address result?

Also, there is mention that geocoding service may use User location (if specified). Does service takes location automatically from Browser / Mobile Phone GPS?

Thank You for help in advance!

  • Low confidence results will rarely be returned, if ever as the service usually prefers to return no results. I've been working with Bing Maps globally for over a decade and have only seen a couple dozen low confidence results returned by the API.

The REST services does not automatically grab the users location from the browser/mobile device. You can pass this information in via the userLocation parameter. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ff701704.aspx

  • Yes, each location/coordinate in the geocodePoints property of each result has a calculationMethod property which will tell you if the point is one of the following:

    • InterpolationOffset: The geocode point was matched to a point on a road using interpolation with an additional offset to shift the point to the side of the street.

    • Parcel: The geocode point was matched to the center of a parcel.

    • Rooftop: The geocode point was matched to the rooftop of a building.

    • Interpolation: The geocode point was matched to a point on a road using interpolation.

  • Hi Ricky,

Thank You for answer. One more points:

Do we also get the information on level of mapping / geocoding like Rooftop, Street, City, Postal Code etc.

I was unable to find this in documentation. If it is present, could you please guide me to relevant documents.

    Thank You for assistance
