Typed Dataset and DbDataAdapter RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm starting a new project and I must develop a database-independent solution.

When using typed dataset in VS 2005 the DataTables are database-independent, but the TableAdapter is not. There's a way to generate the TableAdapter with DbDataAdapter instead a specific data provider? If not, what's the best practices in this scenario and where found some documentation about that practice?

In time: in the VS 2008 there's a easy way to do this?

  • It is not practical to develop RDBMS vendor agnostic application even ORM(object relational mappers) have to create support for each vendor Microsoft, Oracle, MySQL and DB2.  So you have to create a separate DAL(data access layer) for each RDBMS you intend to support.  Hope this helps.
