64 bit RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've just discovered that the worker process in Windows Azure Web Sites is 32 bit.

All of our development, including the stuff we host on regular azure web roles is 64bit, so this kind of renders the web sites useless.

Is there any way to get a 64 bit host? Perhaps with reserved instance? Are there any plans to add 64 bit support and if so - when?

    Regards,
    Ronen.

  • Hi Ronen,

Websites currently doesn't support 32 bit and there is no workaround to it. We do plan to add 64 bit support in future, there is no ETA on it.

    Thanks

  • I see. Bummer.

Just out of curiosity - why would you bother with 32bit at all? To save extra couple of megs per working process? Or it's easier to sandbox?

  • It's mainly around high density for free and paid shared instances. We will consider adding 64 bit support for reserved (Dedicated) instances in future.
