I solved by running the vm in parallels isolation mode, rebooting then running the vs install again.

I'm also getting this same error when I try to install Visual Studio 2015 RC x86. I'm installing all features except for the three Android options and Google Chrome.
I'm on a brand new Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview x64 VM that's currently fully updated.
It's a fairly clean system, the only other things that have been installed are Parallels Tools and Chocolatey.

Hi PhremWT, chrisWhite
Can you download with the ISO and verify your ISO checksum by refer to here:
https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2015-iso-sha1-vs
If you are sure the checksum is right, try collect logs use this tool and send your log to onedrive and share the link back to here.
Or you can see your image there is a link called examine your logs. The log will contains more info for us to check.
Best regards,
Barry

Hi PhremWT,
What’s the OS version of your Computer?
The Visual Studio Professional 2015 RC supported Operating Systems: Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 10 Technical Preview. You can check it.You can use the FCIV.exe to get the SHA1 of Visual Studio Professional 2015 RC, for the resource and the use of the FCIV, please refer to the following link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/heaths/archive/2011/03/25/verify-the-iso-checksum-for-visual-studio-2010-service-pack-1-before-installing.aspxIf the SHA1 doesn’t equal “2A1EE16D566900AF40BA3C2B387EB9CB6D62F099”, it indicates that your package is not a good package, you can re-download and reinstall it.
If the SHA1 equals “2A1EE16D566900AF40BA3C2B387EB9CB6D62F099”, you can refer to the common setup steps to reinstall it from the link: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/msdnforum/archive/2010/03/06/visual-studio-and-net-framework-installation-tips.aspx
If it still doesn’t work, I’m not sure of the reason because lack of information, I need your full logs to analyze, and could you help to collect the log for me according to the following steps:
1) Download the Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET Framework Log Collection tool(http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=12493).
2) Run the collect.exe tool from the directory where you saved the tool.
3) The utility creates a compressed cabinet file of all the VS and .NET logs to %temp%\vslogs.cab.
4) Post the vslogs.cab file with some descriptions of your issue to the forum.Hope this information is helpful.

Note: I am only getting this error on a Windows 10 Parallels VM install. Windows 8.1 VM and it installs fine.

I am experiencing exactly the same thing.
Windows 10 Pro Insider, build 10074 running in a Parallels VM using the small exe installer. I am downloading the Visual Studio Community 2015 RC ISO now, and will try installing from there to see if it makes any difference.

The ISO also had the same problem. Looking at the logs, I think it might be related to the way parallels is remapping (Options -> Sharing -> Share Folders) the desktop and home directories from the Mac side to the Windows side.
Unfortunately when I try changing that configuration from the Parallels settings, it forced me into an infinite reboot loop. So I am going to re-install the Win 10 Technical preview, but make sure those sharing settings are disabled before doing the install to see if that helps.

This fixed it for me - re-installed Win 10 preview and ensured that the Parallels settings were such that it wasn't mapping the user directories (music/documents/downloads/desktop etc to the Mac side). I then installed it from the ISO no problem.
