Small Basic Not Loading.

Question
-
I want to be able to use Small Basic as I have just started an IT apprenticeship and really want to get my head around computer programming, I have installed the program on my Windows 7 PC at work and it operates no problem. However I have tried to install it on a Windows XP virtual machine, and as soon as I try to open it up I get the error message "Small Basic has encountered a problem and needs to close" or words to that effect.
Fearing that this was a problem with installing on a virtual machine I created a Windows 7 virtual machine, installed Small Basic and it runs fine. This is all on my computer at work.
At home I have a laptop running Windows XP, when I installed and ran Small Basic on this laptop I received the same error message as I did on the Windows XP virtual machine.
Has anyone had a similar problem and managed to solve it? I would really like to be able to run this program at home and I'm starting to get really annoyed at it.
Thanks
Jade.

Small Basic is written in a .Net Framework language type. More specifically for .Net 3.5 SP1. In order to run it, you must have that exactly version installed in your machine's OS!
Windows 7 and newer already comes with that installed. However, for Windows XP and even Windows Vista, that framework virtual machine needs to be manually installed!
A pity that important condition isn't told when downloading Small Basic. However, inside the FAQs got more detailed explanations:

Here's a direct .Net 3.5 download link:

I think you also need SP3 for XP.

Also, please be warned that Windows XP SP3 is a notoriously risky update. However, you do not need to install it if SP3 is already installed on your machine (check My Computer -> Properties to get your SP version.)
If you do need to install SP3, read this guide first: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717
