ERROR: Failed to initialize SLDL. HRESULT: C004D301 - is there a cure? RRS feed

  • Question

  • It happened after I've uninstalled March preview and tried to install June preview (the error is in the log file). Internet search did not yield any recipe for fixing this other than creating a support case with MS. Anybody fought and won this?

  • I'm having the same problem with Blend 2 Trial or Blend 3 March Preview :(
    Impossible to install...

Anyone from MS looking into this issue?

  • Could you try and run setup.exe from the command prompt (as an admisistrator if on Vista)
    >setup.exe -l*V so that the log that you send us would be the verbose log.
Let setup complete. From the command prompt:
    type cd %temp%
    Press enter
    dir xsetup_*.log
    press enter
Copy the contents of the latest file you find by following the above steps.

Can you send us the log file to exfordis@microsoft.com

What OS are you running on and are you running on a x86 or x64 processor??

We are investigating this problem and are attempting to repro it.  Any information you provide with regards to repro steps would be helpful.

  • This error:

1: InstallLicenses: Attempting to initialize SLDL.

2: InstallLicenses: ERROR: Failed to initialize SLDL. HRESULT: C004D301

indicates the licensing store has been tampered with (or at least the licensing software says it has)

For fully licensed versions, Product Support has the ability to fix this issue.
Reseting the OS to a restore point will NOT correct this problem.

  • Hm that's weird, we're getting this error on a computer at my company and the version i tried to install was the trial/preview edition.
Also i read that people installing the non trial edition are getting the same exact error. :(

  • I am facing the same problem installing licensed version of Expression Studio 3 on Vista.

What would be the fix for this problem?

  • If you have a fully licensed or MSDN version of Expression, please contact Microsoft Product Support.  The Expression Licensing Service reports to Expression that the license store has been tampered with.  Due to the Trials expiring, there are no publicly available tools to resolve this issue.
