    HI Guys,

I have a two WCF service hosted in a server. One of them is a PDF generator service and other one uses this service to do some tasks.

Third party PDF generator is used.

Problem Statement: Both the service seems to be running when we check it via services.msc and sometimes they stop automatically.  Most of the times the services dont stop but the pdf generation stops working, so we have to manually restart both the services and all starts working fine again.

The following things are already in place.

    • Interface driven coding is taken to build this WCF service.
    •  Service Throttling check is done and MaxConcurrentCalls property is set to 1000.  Is this too high a figure because the box on which the service is running has the following configuration  (2.83 ghtz processor with 7 gb ram, intel xeon).
    • Concurrency Mode is set to multiple.
    • Service logging in not used.
    • We have handled exception and logging the exceptions.  We have scanned through the log files and there is not trace of any malfunctioning.

Can you guys suggest what could be the potential reason behind this and what approaches shud be taken to resolve such issues ?

    Thanks in advance

    Supro

What does the event log state on the server where the WCF service resides?  It is not typical for the service to just stop.  I would recommend trying to do some tests to isolate if the Prince PDF component is at fault or the service.  Try testing concurrency in a simple test harness with the PDF component to see if you can reproduce the problem.  If not, then there could be an issue with the WCF configuration or server resources.

What is the 3rd party PDF component you are using?  You WCF may not be the culprit here; it might be isolated to the PDF component and making the service look bad.  Recently we were trying to use a PDF component from DynamicPDF that had concurrency issues.  We ended up using an Apose component instead that did not exhibit the same behavior.
