When will VSeWSS 1.3 RTW be available? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Just wondering if anyone has heard any news about VSeWSS 1.3 and when it will be Release To Web (RTW).  Last I heard was July 2009 but I haven't heard a peep since April.

  • I STILL have not heard a thing about the release of VSeWSS 1.3.  Can someone please give a time frame so we can know what expect?

Thanks in advance for any information.

  • So we still haven't heard anything?

Can Microsoft at least say whether Visual Studio 2010 tooling will be backward compatible with WSS 3.0/MOSS 2007 when it is released? As not everyone is going to jump on the 2010 band wagon straight away ;-)

Or should I still be recommending WSPBuilder due to the current limitations of VSeWSS 1.3 CTP?

  • I really would like to get an answer to this question - it's now September and we're still waiting for the July RTW?

  • Hi,

VSeWSS 1.3 release has been delayed in the release management process at Microsoft until October 2009. Please continue to use the March CTP and report any issues that you find. Available here:

  • Paul,

Thanks for the reply.  I was beginning to think I should just wait for VS 2010 and forget VSeWSS 1.3.  Anyways... thanks for keeping us developers in the loop.  I am really looking forward to VSeWSS 1.3 and even more so VS 2010.  Thanks.

  • No loss there then.  Will have to include a really good feature set to replace WSPBuilder at the moment :)

  • From the sneak peek videos of SharePoint 2010, Visual Studio 2010 will effectively replace VSeWSS, so I doubt they'll bother with a new version.

The VS10 projects include import routines so that you can import old VSeWSS projects to VS10 format, import WSPs to create new projects and a whole raft of new project templates for SharePoint.

If you want to know more, take a look at the Developer Video:

PS - I'll be at #SPC09 too! :) See you there

  • Any news on the RTW release?  It's mid-October and there has been no news on the VSeWSS front.

  • From what I can see from sneakpeeks, VS2010 will not be backwards compatible with MOSS2007 which means if you're doing 2007 stuff you'll have to have VS2008 with VSeWSS or WSPBuilder etc. :-(

July 2010 is next month, are you sending email from the future? The team is working on the release now.

  • It's now November 2010 and I am wondering if there will ever be a final release of VSeWSS 1.3.  I know this is probably not the highest priority item for Microsoft at the moment, and I'm not getting my hopes to high.  So I have just one question, will there be a final release of VSeWSS 1.3, and if so is there any planned release date?

I am just looking for a straight answer here.  If the project has been scraped, I can understand, but the important thing is I just want to know where we stand with this release.  I greatly appreciate any new information that you can share.

    Thank you.

  • I am afraid VSeWSS will never been released. I guess Microsoft is pushing people on SharePoint 2010+VS2010.
