Outlook Add-in RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am developing a VSTO add-in to integrate Outlook with my enterprise application. As per our requirement we need to integrate our custom search in outlook. I want to know is there any way to customize search bar of outlook? Kindly tell me if I can add more options to the menu bar that comes on right side of search bar?

  • No, the best you can do is add extra buttons to the Search ribbon.

  • Dear Dmitry Streblechenko,

Thanks for the above update, kindly let me know if below screen is possible to create through AddIns program for custom searching content(Search Box). If possible, kindly share some reference links in VB.net language, I would really thankful.

  • No, I am not talking about modifying the existing component while designing a new component through AddIns, similar to below screenshot, so that we can enable custom search from a third party program which will take "Search Text" from this window and fetch results from a web service and later on display on some windows form.

Already attempted: - We have already created an "Edit Box: refer below screenshot" and a search button which is absolutely working fine, but due to GUI, it has not been approved by management, they want search box like above screen. Kindly assist.

    I will be really thankful.

  • No, you cannot create an edit box in that area.

  • I don't think there is an API, but you can try to use the Accessibility API to access the existing control and its text.
