Does Windows 10 Pro 32 bit download/Installation come with a "fully functional"16 bit subsystem? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does a Windows 10 Pro 32 bit Installation come with a "fully functional" 16 bit Windows subsystem?

I ask because I have some old 16 bit GUI C/C++ products and I want to see how well it works under Windows 10 OSes.   Perhaps I could use it as new starting point for a 64 bit port project.

    Thanks

  • Hi hector santos,

I suppose the answer is Yes and No (basically Yes).
16-bit application could run in Windows 10 32-bit, when "NTVDM"[*1] feature is ON.
But many 16-bit app. would require run-time and/or dll. If you could install required run-time and/or dll, 16-bit app could run.

    [*1] NTVDM feature:
It can be enabled: [Control Panel] > [Programs] > [Program and Features]
         > [Turn Windows features on or off] > Legacy Components > NTVDM=checked

It exists only in 32-bit Windows 10, does not exist in 64-bit one.

I've found an article. It's in Japanese, and you could understand its contents because many screenshots are there.
Windows 10に昔のソフトを入れてみました。 (this means "I've tried to old-time software in Windwos 10")

    Regards.
