Can Linked Server Access Between Domains RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to confirm that Linked Server access between 2 or more domains will only work if the domains are trusted.  Is this correct?  We are considering having one of our servers hosted at the software vendor's site, but our domains will not be trusted.  If I understand this right, the linked servers will fail because the domains are not trusted.  Is this correct?

    Thanks,   Dave

  • You need to use a SQL login to do this.

  • How would the linked server find the destination server if the domains are not trusted?

Are you not able to ping them? SQL Server connectivity works in workgroup as well. i.e. domain machines is not a limitation
