Is the NUnit Test Project on Visual Studio different from 3'rd party NUnit RRS feed

  • Question

  • The Visual Studio has NUnit Test Project.

And there is NUit which nunit.org provides.

Are those the same one? or not?

  • Hello Jeff,

If you mean the NUnit test framework, yes, they are the same one, but NUnit Test Project supports NUnit test by including the necessary NuGet packages of NUnit.

From here: Use a third-party test framework, the official document mentioned: “Use the NuGet Package Manager to install the NuGet package for the framework of your choice. Or, for the NUnit and xUnit test framework, Visual Studio includes preconfigured test project templates that include the necessary NuGet packages.”

So, Visual Studio uses NUnit NuGet package to support NUnit test. As you can see, from nuget.org, the authors of NUnit NuGet package are Charlie Poole and Rob Prouse, and from NUnit.org, you can see “NUnit is run by the core team, Rob Prouse, Charlie Poole...”
