Framework 3.5 install errors - logs included RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello,

    I've spent a couple weeks trying to figure out why my .net 3.5 w/sp1 isn't installing. I've tried both the regular and redistributable versions. I get the famous MSI 1603 error.

    - Trying to install .net 3.5 sp1
    - Downloaded from microsoft
    - Free drive space: C 4.75GB; D 1.00GB; E 54.2GB
    - OS: Windows server 2003 sp2 (virtual using VM Ware 6.5.2)
    - Current installation:
    -- .net compact 1.0 sp3 developer
    -- .net compact 2.0
    -- .net 2.0 sp2
    -- .net 3.0 sp2

    My logs (from the redistributable version) can be found on the skydrive site:
    http://cid-218d4f2a5a1c8132.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public/MS.NET%20Framework%20Install%20Error%20Log

    This is holding up our planned migration to the 3.5. Any assistance will be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    RJ

  • Hi RamJaf,

    Thanks for sharing the logs.

    From Vslog file, I found the error message:

    DDSet_Error: CFileHelper::CheckIsWriteable C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\config\machine.config is read only.
    DDSet_Error: _fileHelper->CopyConfigFilesToTempLocation failed. Error code: 0x80004005
    DDSet_Error: Failed to copy config files to temp directory. Error code: 0x80004005
    DDSet_CARetVal: -2147467259
    DDSet_Exit: WFServicesReg.exe
    07/06/09 12:50:44 DDSet_Status: Process returned -2147467259
    07/06/09 12:50:44 DDSet_Error: The Commandline '"C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\WFServicesReg.exe" /c /v /m /i' returned non-zero value: -2147467259.

    Can you please check if C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\config\machine.config exists on your machine and whether you can copy this file to Temp diretory?

    Thanks
