Can't open Excel files in Office365 Sharepoint 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Today (may 6th 2015), I was suddenly unable to open Excel files online.  I get the following error message:  "COULDN'T OPEN THE WORKBOOK  ...  We're sorry. We couldn't open your workbook. You can try to open this file again, sometimes that helps."

I am able to open other files online alright (word, onenote, etc.).  What could be the problem? Is this a new bug?

P.S. This is not a browser related problem, I already tried in Chrome, IE and Firefox.

  • Hi Lucia,

For narrowing down the issue, please test some Excel files(existing Excel files, even new test Excel files) on multiple site collections(and new site collection) from Office365, see if the issue always could be reproduced with Chrome, IE, Firefox.

If not, it may be related to the file corruption, or as messeage described to wait and open again, see if it helps.

If yes, it may be related to Office 365 SharePoint server side issue, since O365 SharePoint online is hosted in the cloud, I would recommend you post this issue in our dedicated Office365 forum for getting more accurate information and assistance regarding this field via below link.
