Re-installing .NET framework on Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have mis-deleted the files of .NET framework on my Windows 7.

I've got my .NET 1.1 and 4.5 back, but for .NET 3.5, the installer prompt that I should enable .NET 3.5 from control panel.

The problem is that I cannot enable my .NET 3.5, possibly because the files has been deleted.

Neither NetFxRepairTool nor dotnetfx_cleanup_tool solve the problem.

Hope someone could help me with this.

  • Your issue with .NET 3.5 on Win 7 is that .NET 3.5 came embedded as part of the OS, and cannot be installed, uninstalled or repaired by the user using normal techniques. That is why the tools you tried to use had no effect.

There is one procedure you could try to repair an embedded .NET Framework, here:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2007/03/26/how-to-repair-the-net-framework-2-0-and-3-0-on-windows-vista.aspx

If you really did delete .NET 3.5 files, I'm not at all sure the procedure above will help you. If it does not, you then will have to repair or reinstall your Windows 7.

    Sorry for the bad news.
