Maintenance page On Sharepoint during CU patch RRS feed

  • Question

  • When we do SharePoint CU Patch , the service will be down when we run the configuration wizard since it start upgrading he Databases, is there a way from SharePoint to have a Maintenance page instead of rerouting the traffic  to a different Web Server that have Maintenance page.

  • Absolutely!

For each IIS Site (Web Application), put a file in the root directory with the name:

    app_offline.htm

You can put whatever you want in this page to indicate the site is offline.

  • This won't work if the CU maintenance activity is constantly restarting IIS and you will end up getting Service Unavailable. Right?

  • I have a proxy server which also act as load balancer and when I save app_offline.htm file in the root directory of web app, it shows me the Proxy error page rather than app_offline.htm

Is there a way to direct proxy to this page?
