Mainpage with Bing Maps shows black screen on load RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our C# client has a main page which uses the latest Bing Maps SDK that was last updated on 10/3/2012. We're running Windows 8 RTM

    The C# client uses a WinRT component written in C++/CX. The project references the following packages

    1. Bing Maps for C#, C++ or Visual Basic

    2. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime

    3. WinRT component written in C++/CX

    We are sideloading our app on test machines without Visual Studio 2012.

    The machines where VS2012 is installed, the app loads fine and runs. on machines that DO NOT have VS2012, the extended splash screen loads fine, but when rootFrame.Navigate(typeof(MainPage)) happens, a black screen is displayed until the user closes it. The mouse pointer is visible and that moves. but the main page just shows up black.

    This is making it very very difficult for us to run internal beta testing, can someone please help ?

  • You are probably trying to sideload a Debug flavor build which will not work without VS or the VS remote debugging package installed. Change it to Release and it should work fine.

  • Yeah we were running debug versions of the X86 appx builds on a 64 bit windows 8 rtm install. We tried a release x64 build and everything worked. Thanks for your help :)
