Access Violation Exception

    Question

  • I am running a CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) application which crashes periodically. I cannot create the problem on demand and it is not dependant on any one action being performed in the application.

    Crash Analysis:

In CAD__PID__8160__Date__02_21_2015__Time_08_47_05PM__689__Second_Chance_Exception_C0000005.dmp the assembly instruction at mshtml!CCollectionCache::EnsureAry+c9 in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mshtml.dll from Microsoft Corporation has caused an access violation exception (0xC0000005) when trying to read from<//b> memory location 0x00000000 on thread 0

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Ken4620,

Let's try to narrow down this issue. You can try to use your app package on "another" device where you have never run your app (different than the one you are testing on) and check if it still crashes or not.

If need more help, you can provide more information about your app, Which type it is.

You can also try opening the dump file in the Windows Debugger by following the steps that Matt has written on team blog: http://aka.ms/qebeir

The blog shows how to debug a C# dump, but the same concepts will apply for you as well.
