animated GIF pushpin support for Bing Maps V8?

    Question

  • Hi everybody,

    In BM v7, I used to have an animated pushpin, using a GIF for that. Now, with V8, looks like no longer works. Any idea?

        var pin = new Microsoft.Maps.Pushpin(pos, { icon: 'images/main/animatedPushpin2b.gif', anchor: new Microsoft.Maps.Point(12, 12) });

  • This is to be expected. V8 uses the HTML5 canvas for rendering shapes. This provides a great improvement in performance and allows for a lot of new features to be created. It also supports a lot of new types of custom pushpins (samples). However, HTML pushpins and animated GIF's are not supported by the default pushpin class anymore as they can't be rendered on an HTML5 canvas. That said, you can easily get around this by using a custom overlay in V8. Here is a code sample that should be fairly easy to modify for your use case: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/mt762877.aspx
