  • Add a serial number to the device.  Any device without a serial number is a pain to use, and should be considered a piece of crap.

  • But USB serial number is optional in USB spec, is there any way to pass the test without USB serial number?

  • As far as I know it is not optional for WHQL.

  • But we just did WHQL test (HID device)a few months ago and the Serial Number is optional. As long as the device claim no USB serial number, the WHQL will not test the usb SN. But the new version WHQL seems different.

  • Please refer to the following link.

The Communication device class (Class Code 0x02) must implement USB serial numbers.
