  • If you are still getting like below error,

Specified instance {4112625F-2D38-49EF-924F-48511BC5CD34} via transform :InstID02.mst;:InstName01.mst is already installed. MSINEWINSTANCE requires a new instance that is not installed.

First byte-reverse the first “octet” of the instance code from 4112625F to F5262114 and find it in the registry hives

    HKLM>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows>Installer>UpgradeCodes

    and

    HKLM>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows>Uninstall

    and clean them

Also, you can use MSI inventory to find what all SQL software installed in your machine and use Windows Installer Cleanup utility to clean SQL 2008 Orphan entries.

  • I didn't find MsiGetProductInfo error from Detail_ComponentUpdate.txt.

and the 2nd link, yes, I have run several times upgrade, may not remove it properly.

First time when I re-upgrade, I got the error like MSSQLSERVER.INACTIVE exist, upgrading stopped.

and I followed the below workaround to remove MSSQLSERVER.INACTIVE

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/baliles/archive/2012/04/27/how-to-fix-a-failed-sql-2005-2008-r2-or-2012-install-upgrade-mssqlserver-inactive.aspx

But, I'm not able to use control pannedl - >add/remove programs to uninstall MSSQL 2008, although the uninstall program finished successfully. when I open add/remove programs, MSSQL 2008 is there.

How to uninstall MSSQL 2008 properly without impact the existing MSSQL 2005 database ?

    Thanks,

    Yuyu

  • Windows Server 2003

To manually uninstall SQL Server 2008, follow these steps:
    1. At a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
      CD %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Release
    2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
      setup.exe /ACTION=uninstall /FEATURES=<var>Feature_List</var> /INSTANCENAME=<var>Instance_Name</var>

What would be the instance name ?

If MSSQLSERVER, will it remove my existing working MSSQL2005 database ?

    or use MSSQLSERVER.INACTIVE

    setup.exe /ACTION=uninstall /FEATURES=SQL,AS,BOL,SSMS /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER.INACTIVE ?

    If use this manually uninstall, do I still need to clear orphaned SQL instance using : msiexec /x {9FFAE13C-6160-4DD0-A67A-DAC5994F81BD}

    Thanks,

    Yuyu

  • Hi,

Just clear your Orphaned SQL instance first,

    http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/355756/rc0-setup-fails-with-1639-when-installing-a-new-default-instance-on-a-server-with-previous-uninstall-of-sql-2005

  • After clear Orphaned INACTIVE instance,

what would be the instancename for the below manually remove SQL command?

as I have tried remove from control panel not working

    setup.exe /ACTION=uninstall /FEATURES=SQL,AS,BOL,SSMS /INSTANCENAME=?

    Sunday, June 9, 2013 12:42 AM
  • I have removed Orphaned INACTIVE instance.

Remove MSSQL 2008 in control panel - > add or remove programs

remove MSSQL100 folder on c:\program files\microsoft sql server

    and reboot

    and tried to upgrade again,

    get more errors:

    1. Unknown version

    2. The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server.

    3. InstID01..mst is already installed error still can find from the logs.

  • If you are still getting like below error,

Specified instance {4112625F-2D38-49EF-924F-48511BC5CD34} via transform :InstID02.mst;:InstName01.mst is already installed. MSINEWINSTANCE requires a new instance that is not installed.
