stars on a dark background RRS feed

  • Question

  • Please forgive me as I am a complete beginner in this program and even to me this seems like something I should be able to figure out, but so far no joy.  I have a very dark blue background layer and I am trying to put a few points of lights (stars) on it.

  • Try making very small white filled ellipses.  Then add a Gaussian Blur in the Effects palette.  You can also vary the transparency using the Fill Opacity slider.

  • Sparkle effects are easy.

Simply draw out another polygon and give it 5 sides. Give it a white fill and no stroke and then give it an inner depth of 97%.

To make different looking stars, just add more or less sides to your polygons.

You can see sparkles in my tutorial here. http://www.wetinkpro.com/silverlight

Also this method allows you to use the polygon shapes in other programs like Blend without ruining it upon export if you use Blur effects.  So that means you can animate these polygons later. :)
