Individual DNS settings for domain controllers in azure in availability sets RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

we expanded our on premises network to azure (VPN) and want to install multiple domain controller VMs for multiple ad domains including ad integrated dns in an availability set in azure. Problem is that if i specify dns server configuration on one DCs NIC in an availability set it is inherited on the other DCs NIC which is in the same availability set.

Is there any workaround for this. This behaviour is specific to azure as on premises i can configure each DC NIC dns settings individually. And that is a requirement in our situation.

  • If the VM that uses a NIC which is part of an availability set, then all the DNS servers specified for each of the VMs from all NICs that are part of the availability set will be inherited. This property is what is configured on each of those VMs. You cannot work around this unless you create separate availability sets for each of your DCs.
