Color depth conversion: RGB888 to RGB565 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'd like to know, how does colour depth happen in Windows.

First of all I want to understand the algorithm. The only clear explanation I've found is GDI Color Space Conversion [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff566496%28VS.85%29.aspx], but it seems it's only about W2K. Does in newer Windows versions the conversion is the same?

Secondly, I'd like to know which component is responsible of the conversion? Is it always GDI, or it could be a particular video card driver ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mikhail
