How many times can I activate Windows with MAK ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have BizSpark subscription. For Windows 10 I have two options to claim keys: Retail Key and Multiple Activation Key.

I understand, that Multiple Activation has limit on number of times, that it can be activated. What is the limit? Is there page with summary of those limits, for different subscription levels?

  • There is an upper limit on the number of activations . It depends on the type of volume licensing agreement that you have.
You can find more information on the same at
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/licensing/existing-customer/FAQ-product-activation.aspx
If you need additional keys, you can submit a request through MSDN Customer Service and it will be considered for approval on a case-by-case basis.

  • Hi Mark,

Since all the products have different rules/key types/licensing, we cant specify, in general, the number of activations using MAK.
If you do need specific information on a key or product, please contact the MSDN Subscriptions Customer Service at
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/aa948874

  • The keys generated from MSDN Subscription has 20 activations (Windows 8.1 MAK). Similarly Windows 10 Enterprise MAK should have about 20 activations. You can generate the key from your MSDN sub. and use Volume Activation Management Tool 3.0 to check the no. of activations.

  • So how would we actually find out how many activations we have?  You gave a generic "it depends" answer and it'd be nice to know for our MSDN accounts exactly what the Tscharek asked.

  • How would you do that, Prathaprabhu?

VAMT requires setting up a database of installs based on a registered key, as if we had volume license subscriptions.  But we don't... we just have an MAK.  How would VAMT read that and know how to find the number of activations?  Many thanks!

  • But it wasn't an answer, unfortunately.
