SUSE Premium Linux Images and Support RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am new to Azure and I am extremely confused by the premium Suse Linux images.  We just set up a trial account and I created a new Linux machine using the "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 (Premium Image)" image from the gallery.  According to what I have read, the premium images are supposed to include "support and patching".   I am extremely confused by how this works, and I can find zero documentation that explains it.  So I have the following questions:

    1. Are the patches automatically applied to my VM?  If so, how often does this take place (and when), and how do I approve/disapprove which patches get installed?
    2. I am planning to install apache, PHP and MySQL to host a couple wordpress websites on this server.  Will the patching include patches for apache, PHP and MySQL, in addition to the OS?
    3. The support structure makes no sense to me.  The pricing calculator includes a line item for "Linux support" and a separate line item for "support".  Do I need both of these?
    4. How do I configure or purchase support options?  My boss made me a co-administrator for this subscription, but I do not see any place to purchase/change support options within the management console.  Is this not available for the free trial, or is it something I would not be able to see as a co-administrator?

I'd appreciate any insight...maybe I just need to talk to the sales department.

Guest OS updates are not done by Microsoft. Customer own their machines and need to manage the updates.
