ILB ASE Endpoint Monitoring RRS feed

  • Question

  • Scenario:

Have an ASE behind an ILB (the ILB ASE with WAF scenario):

Can the IP of the ILB essentially act as an endpoint for monitoring purposes? The scenario would be to have the ILB as the endpoint for the application gateway which in turn would monitor the ILB for availability and failover to another ILB in case the primary was unhealthy.

  • The ILB portion of the ASE is baked into the infrastructure so there's not a way to monitor it specifically. Since the ASE is made up of multiple web apps you could possiblely isolate one specific app that is a simple static page for the health of the ASE to know if you needed to fail over. It wouldn't be fool proof but it would provide a general baseline.
