Problems with WEC2013 Update 38? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

We are using the latest WEC2013 Update 38 (Dec 2016) in a system of one of our customers. They are extensively testing the product and now report failures such as:

    - system hangup causing a white screen, reboots, or no communication possible through TCP/IP on Ethernet

    - crash in NDIS

    Does anyone recognize these symptoms?

The reason for asking is that we did not have these issues in the past.

    By the way:

Did anyone notice that a Wave 3 update of WC2013 was announced/available on 2017/02/14 (just 2 days ago), but today it is no longer there?

    Kind regards,

    Marcel

  • We have just released r1375 of the GuruCE i.MX6 BSP and have created free evaluation kernels for this release. The evaluation kernels are built on a system with updates up to (and including) December 2016. We have not seen any of the issues described in your post during our extensive testing, so I doubt the issue is caused by any of the WEC updates.

You can download one of our evaluation kernels for a myriad of off-the-shelf-boards and see if you can reproduce the issue. If not, then you'll know it is a BSP issue (and that maybe it is time you switch to a high quality, 100% OAL stable, production ready i.MX6 BSP ;-))

  • Hi Marcel,

I also noticed, that update 38 available on 2017/02/14. But this should be update 39.

Regarding the TCP/IP, please have a look at:

    Kind regards,

    Pascal

  • Hello Pascal,

Thank you for indicating the issue about the static IP address.

However, I doubt that we are dealing with that issue because:

    • We use an iMX6 based BSP and not x86
    • We have a Hive based registry
    • The system shows the problem after hours/days of normal operation. I expect the static IP issue to show up at startup.

    Kind regards,

    Marcel

  • Hi Marcel,

Are you using a third party BSP? If so have you reached out to the BSP Provider? In order for folks to be able to help, they will need to see the problem as well. Can you give a complete account of how someone might see your issue?

    1. What hardware, software versions are involved?

    2. How should that hardware be configured to see the problem?

    3. What steps would someone take to see your issue?

    4. What debugging have you done to isolate the issue?

    Sincerely,

    IoTGirl

  • Hello IoTGirl,

We are currently trying to reproduce the issues that our customer is reporting. At this moment we do not yet have a procedure to reproduce the issues.

In the meantime we were wondering if other people using the latest WEC2013 update also experience similar issues.

Your questions are valid, but I do not have answers at this moment.

    Regards,

    Marcel

  • Hello Michel,

It is good to know that you did not experience issues with the latest update. This gives us some idea where to search for the cause.

    Thanks,

    Marcel

  • Hi Marcel,

I can confirm that like Michel, the Sustained Engineering Team at Microsoft has not seen this issue so we will need more detail to offer any guidance.

    Sincerely,

    IoTGirl
