Unchecking "Is Visible" to hide screen item leaves blank line RRS feed

  • Question

  • I added an item to my screen and unchecked
     [ ] Is Visible

    in the Properties.

The text item was not printed, but left a blank line.  I would think there
should be no blank line when the item is not visible.

    Thanks,
    David

  • Hi David,

Can you post a screenshot? Which item did you add?

  • Hi Heinrich,

Actually, when I went back to repro it for you, all I did is drag a field from the list on the left (a string) to the Rows Layout, and then unchecked the Is Visible checkbox for that item.

I ran it, and this caused the field to be displayed after all.  So, unchecking the Is Visible checkbox has no effect.  To get it not to show up, I had changed the Sizing property to “Fixed width” and Pixels to “0”.  But this left the blank line.

So, the problem is that the Is Visible checkbox doesn’t work.  If you still need screenshots, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    David

  • Hi David,

I tried to reproduce it, but isVisible worked for me and I didn't have a blank line either. Can you add a screenshot of your exact screen configuration? Where did you uncheck the isVisible, on the field or the rows layout?

  • Hi David,

Seems like the problem is specific to IsVisible inside of a List / TileList. Do you want to dynamically show the field during runtime or do you just want to remove it from the screen completely?

  • Hi Heinrich,

I want to remove it from the screen completely.  The only reason I had it was so I could access it in another field’s postRender() code, implementing the ‘compute a field in postRender() to workaround lack of computed fields in HTML clients’ problem.  But since I found the data to be present in in the contentItem already, I don’t need to add the hidden field to the screen at all anymore.

I just wanted to let you know the IsVisible property did not always work.

    Thanks,
    David
