login failed for nt authority\network service RRS feed

  • Question

  • Read all of the related forums and solutions do not work.  IIS6, server 2003, sqlexpress 2008. web app.

    "cannot open database requested by login.  Login failed for nt authrity\network service

    <remove name="LocalSqlServer" />
      <add name ="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="server=.\webapps;database=aspnetdb;integrated security=true"/>

    Ive tried modifying the connection string in every possible combination:

    initial catalog, remove 'integrated security', remove user instance,

    sp_grant login 'nt authority\network service' in sql mgmt studio

    go to the database under wwwroot and add nt authortiy\network service in the database's security tab.  (this entry often disappears and I have to re add it again.  I think its because of mgmt studio?)

  • I put that in, and redid the gridview sqldatasource connection string to use that in web.config.  It prompts me to connect to sql server.  Using windows authentication, I get

    a network or instance related error occurred.
