Unable to Install VS 2015 Community RRS feed

  • Question

  • I tried to install Visual Studio 2015 Community version (downloaded ISO from DreamSpark). It failed several times with errors that I couldn't really figure how that happened! (see installation image below)

The file was download with no problem (about 3 gigs). Typical installation... on Windows 8.1. I already have VS 2013 installed about a year ago...

Any idea on what I need to do to get VS 2015 Community to install?

    Thanks,

    George

  • First, you need to find out from DreamSpark what the correct checksum value (typically a SHA-1 value) is for the ISO you downloaded. You can then check to see if the ISO is corrupt. If Dreamspark cannot help you with the needed checksum value, I recommend that you download your VS 2015 CE ISO from MSDN, where the SHA-1 value is available.

    Download link: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=615448&clcid=0x409

    SHA-1 value (English): BAAD3CEBAB7A5834D8F78F7D02E4880C010F3BA9

To check you ISO (once you have the checksum value) follow this:

    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2015-iso-sha1-vs.aspx

You can also provide your install logs to readers here as follows:

Please collect your install logs with this:

    http://aka.ms/vscollect

After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like OneDrive, and post the link here.

  • I downloaded another ISO from MSDN and the file is exactly the same. Installed it and it failed again!

I'm just so tired of it because it takes so long for the installer to get to that point... of failure!

Just wondering if MS has other ways to install beside ISO.

  • I tried ten times, ran the checksum and it was OK. It is a nightmare!!!, if the tool is like the installer we should focus our efforts in other development applications

  • I don't have a public site. Can I email it to you instead? George
