Reading a resource file (Text file, no async's please)

    Question

  • From native VC++ background. I was looking for replacement FindResource sort of APIs, since these natives are not available on Windows Store applications.

Searched around, and found that even .NET classes/methods are not available for reading resources (no  XMLS, XAMLS please).

Found some word around Windows.ApplicationModel.Resources, but that doesn't help either. I am not willing to do async just to read a text file.

In short, I just need technique to read a text-file, in synchronous mode. The text-file is stored as resource.

  • You can use "ms-appx" uri to access a resource.

  • I'd suggest embracing async. It's not difficult and you will need it to provide a healthy app for your users.

That said, if you have a very small local file you can use standard C/C++ file operations.
