Adding Application Specific Meta Data to Life Goal Item RRS feed

  • Question

I know Life Goad is an unstructured data where you can store textual description and target date for a goal.

In the application I am working on, I need to add some structured data to it.  Like - this goal is of type "LoosingWeight" and some meta deta associated with it - say 20 pounds.

What is the best way to extend Life Goal so that I can store it there?

As far as I can tell, I can add a CustomNode to TypeSpecificData Property and store my meta data there.

Or should I extend the object as explained in http://blogs.msdn.com/ericgu/archive/2007/11/08/extending-healthvault-data-types-using-healthrecorditemextension.aspx

What is the best way to do this?

Using the extension type is the recommended way of adding the data.

Thanks!.  XPath query should work to fetch items based on the extended xml right?

  • Yes. I suggest turning on request/reponse logging so you can see exactly what the xml is.
