Creating Content Source To Search Specific List\Library RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to create a content source that searches a specific list\library, such as http://site.com/Documents/?  I've tried to create a Scope rule using the above url as a Web Address but receive the error "Attempted to perform an unathorized operation".  If i then create a scope in order to use Content Source as the option, using the same url as above, then it winds up searching the whole site and not just the Documents library.

  • Hi  Joe,

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a new content source for a special  document library in your SharePoint 2010.

For achieving your demand, you can refer to the blog:

  • Eric,

Thanks for the link.  I was able to edit the scope and add the url at the Site Collection level but originally I was unable to do this within the Search Service Application due to the "Unathorized Operation" error message.  Once the Site Collection scope had finished updating I noticed that the Item Count was 0 so I viewed the Crawl Log and although the document library was crawled the only item returned was http://somesite.com/acmdocs/forms.   There are no Error Messages that indicate an issue with crawling that directory so I'm not sure why the files aren't being crawled.  Any ideas?

    Joe
