VBA in Project or in Visio? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I want to write a macro that will loop through the tasks in a project, identify those with a custom field indicator, and export those tasks to a Visio timeline.

Clearly new to world of VBA - I'm not sure if I should do this in Project, or in Visio - or if there is an easier way all round.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Simon,

I would write the macro in Project to export the data to Visio.

What version of Project are you using? If 2007 or 2010, have you checked Visual Reports? If they fit your needs, you don't have to create a macro.

    I hope ths helps,
    Hans

  • With VBA you could write it in either application. For best performance I write the code in the application that has the most work to do. This is Project based on your explanation.

  • Thanks for the response Rod,

Agree that the porgram that does the most work is the sensible place - sounds obvious as soon as someone says it!

I want to format the timeline in Visio using a macro as well so I will have to have  think about where the bulk of the work is done.

    Thanks again.
