Disabling time sync with Azure host RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a DC setup on an Azure VM that connects back to our corporate network using a VPN gateway. This DC is not the primary, so other DCs are set to sync their time with the authoritative time server back in the office.

My PDC is setup as a reliable/authoritative time source, and other DCs sync with it fine. When I boot the Azure VM, it keeps sync'ing with the host time server. (I assume that Azure VM's use Hyper-V integration services like in Windows Server) When I issue the command w32tm /resysnc, the Azure VM correctly starts syncing with the PDC on my network. However, each time I boot it, it seems to forget who it's time server is supposed to be and reverts back to getting time from it's host. (I can see this with the w32tm /monitor command.)

Is there an option to shut off time sync with the hyper-v host in an Azure VM? I did this for my on-site VM's, but I don't know how this is supposed to work in Azure. There should be a way to make it forget about the host time server for application like running a domain controller.
