Application with Entity Framework Distributed via an installer RRS feed

  • We are looking to integrate Entity Framework into some of our applications that are distributed via applications.

    What are some best practices for using Entity Framework in this manner.

  • Why would deploying an application that is using EF be any different than deploying one that was using datasets and datatables? There is no difference not really, since it's all internal code/executables that are deployed with the application in either case.

  • Currently, we do the standard install for an application of our type. A traditional n-tier where during the install, the sql server instance is identified for which to run the SQL Scripts to create the database. Some default data is also inserted into key tables to allow access and basic usage prior to the operators and administrators can setup the system to their needs. The code Binaries are also installed. The former is for the Server Side applications of the System. 

    We are looking for Best Practices for integrating EF into our installation process.

    Is this application being installed for various clients, or is this just a single client usage? Are there various versions of the application? Is this an OOP driven application or a data driven application where the application can be configured based on a Data Driven approach by administrators and setup personnel?
