Designing a photo gallery RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have decided to use the filestream feature in SQL 2008 to serve photos for an asp.net website.   My question is do i save a seperate thumbnail image to the database for each file or create one on the fly from the fullsize image stored in the db?

My design for each photo album constists of a aspx page that shows the thumbnails similiar to the thumbnail view in the windows explorer.  Then when you click on the thumbnail or caption it sends you to a page with the fullsize view of the picture.

I already have this design working, just want opinions, I know that saving thumbnails also will use extra disk space, but what i don't know is will creating a thumbnail from the fullsize photo to populate my thumbnail view page hit my webserver hard?

    Hope this makes sense...
