Problem while installing .net Framework 3.5 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!  I tried to install .net Framework 3.5 on a computer using my Visual Studio 2008 Express Editions .iso installation file.  The installation failed near the end of the setup.  I thought maybe it something to do with the fact that the PC had .net Framework 2.0 previously installed on it but I can't figure out the actual problem.  Any and all help would really be appreciated!

    Here are the error codes:

[02/04/09,01:42:00] WIC Installer: [2] Error code 1603 for this component means "Fatal error during installation.

  • What is your Windows version?
Can you please use the collect tool mentioned here: http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2008/05/09/visual-studio-and-net-log-collection-utility.aspx  to collect essential setup log files for more information?
You can later upload the vslogs.cab via

  • Looking at the lines:
    4.426: InstallInfCatalogFile: Installation failed; error=0x00000002.
    4.426: IsInfFileTrusted: ValidateSingleFileSignature Failed: STR_FAILED_INF_INTEGRITY
4.426: WIC Setup encountered an error:  Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf.  Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this computer.

The problem seems to be the Cryptographic service is not running.
    Please try the following steps:
    1. open Start > run
    2. Type "Services.msc" to open services control panel
    3. Locate Cryptographic Services" and make sure it is started and startup type as Automatic
    4. Try run the setup again.

    Thanks.

When I went to Cryptographic Services, it was already started and set to automatic.  I ran the setup again just in case and got the same problem.  This is irritating.

Here's the updated vslog just in case:

  • I suggest you to use Windows Installer CleanUp Utility http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 to check and remove WIC and try reinstalling.

Otherwise, check out NeviMaster's post at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/netfxsetup/thread/8cce5c65-8c3f-4d13-8800-72e4238d4a04/
it should be the same as yours.

    thanks.

  • Wait, I just thought of something.  Do you think that a virus might have something to do with it?  I have been unable to install directX updates and my web browser won't run ActiveX controls on my computer although those install fine.  This is just a theory but maybe there's a virus preventing this.  What do you think?
