Hardware Architecture with MDS RRS feed

  • I have been ask a couple of Hardware Architecture question about the MDS set up. 

    I have an idea what the answers but would like to know if there is any Microsoft white papers or such for the answers. 

    Questions are below.
    My response is blue italic. 


    1.       How do you ensure high availability and continuity for Microsoft Master Data Services?

                a.       Do you use Microsoft Cluster Services?

                b.      Can MDS and it’s supporting SQL Database co-exist on the one cluster?

                c.       Would it be Active-Active or Active/Passive?

                d.      Can you do a stretch cluster or warm standby?

                e.      Does it support horizontal scaling, using something like a F5 Load Balancer or Global Traffic Manager?


    1.  MDS is just like any web application that is talking to a SQL Server.


    2.       How do you ensure disaster recovery for Microsoft Master Data Services?

               a.       Is all the configuration stored in it’s database?

               b.      Is there any specific type of backup required? 


    a. all settings are in the database

    b. simple database backup and there are a few configuration steps to restore if doing it on a different machine/network.


    Any help would be appreciated.
