white spaces (%20) and [] brackets (%5) in the path cause problems when using the Copy Data (Preview) option RRS feed

  • Question

  • When naming a file or folder with a bracket or a white space(folders) and executing the Copy Data data factory tool, I get the following:

Error when processing request: Cannot find the 'Azure Data Lake Store' file. . Service request id: ##### Response details: {"RemoteException":{"exception":"FileNotFoundException","message":"File/Folder does not exist: /ingest/somename/2017-10-13/schema.dbo.%5filename%5.txt [83069b9e-168f-46c5-9389-d9b69ed5024b][2017-10-13T14:01:06.4854041-07:00]","javaClassName":"java.io.FileNotFoundException"}}'Type=,Message=The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.,Source=,' activityId: 30a96c18-628e-4082-9cf0-acae33d95254

What I had to do was to change my folder/file names, removed the white spaces and the brackets, but I was trying to find a workaround for this issue, any ideas?

  • There is a known issue in copy wizard when previewing a file with space in file name in ADLS. We are fixing it.

If you want to copy files as-is, check the "Binary copy" option in the folder/file selection page to skip the data preview. Otherwise, if you indeed need to parse the file during copy, a workaround for now is to author grammatically e.g. through JSON editor instead of using copy wizard. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    THanks,
